Middle School Bands

The Edison Middle School Bands are made up of three groups:

Beginning Band (5th Hour)

Beginning Band is for 6th through 8th grade students who have no experience with a band instrument.  In this class, students will learn the basics of music and rhythm, and pick their first instrument from the following: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, or Percussion.  All students wishing to play percussion will be subject to a music aptitude test and must learn how to play mallet percussion as well as battery.

Intermediate Band (4th Hour)

Intermediate Band is for 6th through 8th grade students who have had at least one year experience with their band instrument.  In this class, students will learn more complex concepts of music and rhythm, as well as get the chance to step up to a new color instrument, should they show the aptitude for this.  Intermediate Band combines with the Advanced Band for all concerts and competitions.

Advanced Band (2nd Hour)

Advanced Band is for 7th through 8th grade students who have had at least two years experience with their band instrument.  In this class, students will learn advanced concepts of music and rhythm, as well as preparing them for high school level repertoire.  Advanced Band combines with the Intermediate Band for all concerts and competitoins.  Students in this class have the opportunity to become “Band Aids” and help out the high school Marching Band.
